Welcome to the General Events Branch!

What is the General Events Branch?

We strive to unite individuals from the University of Guelph Community through networking and academically supportive events to raise funds and awareness to support local charities and organizations. We will be raising money towards a voted upon cause, through events hosted for our members as well as other STEM students. We hope to make a positive contribution to the Guelph community, as well as provide STEM students with an environment to foster growth and success.

Who Leads Our Team?

We have an awesome team of STEM students working hard to put on events for STEM students!

Caitlin Duthie

General Events Branch Coordinator

Hi! My name is Caitlin and I am a second year Biomed student! I love to hang out with my dog and spending time playing games with my family. I joined the SSGSA in hopes to help other STEM students feel like they have a community where they belong. I enjoy being able to plan fun activities for the club to run! I hope to be able to run many more events in the future for STEM students.

Maryam Maamoun

General Events Branch Sub-Communications Coordinator

Hey, everyone! My name is Mary and I’m a 4th year biochemistry major here at the University of Guelph! I am one of the general events sub-communications coordinator, which means that I am responsible for creating the content and then posting it across all of our social media platforms for the club’s general events! After graduating, I’m looking at pursuing a master’s degree in plant science, and hopefully then work in research within the agriculture and/or food science industry! In my free time, you can find me sketching, reading, or going on walks! If you have any questions for me, please feel free to reach out at [email protected].

Ishil Akhtar

General Events Branch Sub-Events Facilitator

Hello everyone, my name is Ishil! I'm a second year student at the University of Guelph majoring in Bio-Medical Sciences. I am one of the General Events Branch Sub-Finance Coordinators with the STEM Students Guelph Support Association. My role in the club is to keep track of the club's finances for all the events that we hold as well as organizing those events. I am also in charge of creating and managing the semester's budget for the General Events Branch. I would love to pursue a career in the medical field, specifically going into dermatology in the future because of my passion for skin problems such as eczema, acne and hyperpigmentation, having faced eczema as a child. I'd also like to do some research in cancer and immunology if I am ever lucky enough to be able to do so. In my free time, I like to make beauty and fashion related content for my social media pages as I am very passionate about beauty and skincare. I also like to play the guitar and tune up my skills. If you have any questions about our organization, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]!

Jenna Braden

General Events Branch Sub-Finance Minister

Hey! My name is Jenna Braden and I am a third year student at the University of Guelph studying Neuroscience. I am a member of the executive team for the STEM Students Guelph Support Association. My title is the General Events Branch Sub-Finance minister which means I am in charge of creating and managing the budget for the General Events Branch. This includes managing finances for all of the events that we hold as well as having a role in organizing those events. Based on my major you can probably tell that one of my biggest passions is the brain, specifically mental illness, but my other passions include fitness, animals, motorcycles and baseball. One thing that I truly value is guidance, it is a very important aspect of life and is especially important when you are going through the university experience, that is one of the reasons why I joined this club because I would like to not only help provide guidance for new students and fellow science students but also be guided by mentors and my peers.
